GoogleTV soundbar volume control via IR not working properly

anatolyr

Hi,

I'm using the latest Chromecast (with the IR remote), and have been trying to set up the remote to work with my Polk soundbar (Polk MagniFi Mini - connected to the TV via an optical cable). I've set up volume control via the preset profiles GoogleTV offers me for my soundbar brand (the second profile works, only the second one out of four available). Everything seems to work okay. But sometimes when clicking the volume button up once or twice, it seems that the remote continues to send the volume up command repeatedly until the volume is all the way to the maximum (it also happens the other way around too, clicking the volume down, seems to send the command repeatedly to the soundbar until its all the way down). This behavior happens quite often and prevents me from using the product (especially at night when the kids are asleep).

Is anyone familiar with the issue? Is there a solution?

Thank you!

Hey there anatolyr,

I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that remote issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I can imagine the volume shooting up like that is pretty frustrating. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What is the firmware version of the Chromecast Voice Remote?
  • Is the volume button getting stuck in any way, or is there dust that may have gotten trapped inside?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran, thanks for the response.

To answer your questions:

1. As soon as I plugged my new chromecast to the TV. It always had this issue.

2. Firmware version of the remote is 24.7

3. The button is not getting stuck and no dust. The button itself works fine, I changed the volume button to control only the Chromecast (not the Polk soundbar via ir, and it works fine)

4. I've tried resetting both the Chromecast and the remote control separately to factory defaults. Neither of these has helped.

BTW, when using the same setup but with my firetv and its remote, everything works fine.

Thanks in advance,

Anatoly.

Hey there anatolyr,

It sounds like there may be some communication issues between the devices. It may be the case Google or Polk will have to update firmware to be more responsive with each other. In this case, I would recommend that you submit feedback via Google TV so that Google is aware of these issues with that particular device.

I'm really sorry I couldn't have been more helpful here, but if you had any other questions or concerns, I'd be happy to address them.

Best regards,

Jeran
