Lag on Chromecast

WarEagle
Community Member

First, I'm not sure if I have 2nd gen or 3rd gen Chromecast, but here it goes

Whenever I cast my phone or tablet no matter the app ,the picture is jumpy and it lags, but on my phone or tablet it's nice and smooth.

I've been thinking of upgrading to the latest Chromecast with google tv and was wondering if it would eliminate this problem?

The tv that the Chromecast is in is only about 5 ft away with nothing to block the signal. I've actually put my phone right by the tv and still have this problem.

Any solutions or advice and whether updating would help.

Hey there WarEagle,

I apologize for the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that casting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as that sounds like it makes a terrible viewing experience. Just to double-check, do you know much your download speed is? At least 20 Mbps is recommended. I would also make sure that your router is within 20 feet of the Chromecast as well, for the strongest connection possible. If the problem is still occurring, follow the steps listed in this article.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

I followed the instructions in your post, but Im unable to add my chromecast to my Google Home, the only way I can cast is to go into Home- click on my Living Room Tv - mirror to tv.

There is no chromecast icon or listing on the main Home screen.

Everytime I try to search and add chromecast to my Home app it finds nothing.

I don't know if it's the age of the chromecast I have or not.

I was wondering if I might be smarter to purchase the new 4k with Google tv and replace the older one

Hey there WarEagle,

No problem at all, we can try a few more things. First, go ahead and make sure that your Google Home app is up-to-date. Then, factory reset the Chromecast, and then set it up again. Afterwards, let me know if the problem still persists.

Thank you,
Jeran

I haven't tried the reset yet as I'm still thinking whether buying a new chromecast might be worth it

It's really weird in the fact that if I have a "cast" button on my app and use it to watch from my tablet to the tv , it works like a charm, but if I don't.have the cast button on the app I'm using and go from my tablet thru google home to the tv, that's when I get lag and jumping of the picture.

When I'm doing it app to home to tv I can see lagging and jumping on the tv but the picture is perfect on my tablet.

Hi WarEagle,

Understood. Give resetting your Chromecast a try first and let's see if that helps. If you haven't tried, reboot your router as well to refresh the connection.

Best,

Alex

I was finally able to factory reset my chromecast and it was successfully added through my Google Home Hub and the first try seemed to stop lagging from one program I use, hopefully it's cured it on all programs
