Need to reset chromecast every day

Hi everyone,

I have a chromcast 3d gen, had it for 7 years now.

Been working great until like a month ago,

Everytime I turn on the tv, 1 to 3 times a day, I need to reset the chromecast to be able to cast. If I try to cast it just loads but after a reset it works. If I dont cast for a couple of hours I need to reset it again.

Have someone had this problem and did it get solved or is my chromecast broken?

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. If you haven’t done the factory reset, I suggest you do so. You can then set it up and connect to a mobile hotspot. Observe if the same behavior occurs. We are trying to isolate the possibility of a network-related issue. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Chidgeyjohn,

Thanks for doing the factory reset. One approach I can suggest is connecting to a mobile hotspot to isolate possible network issues (IP address conflict, server rejection, DNS issues, etc.). This happens even if the internet speed is blazing fast. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Kimy

I replied yesterday via email but this was wrong

yes it worked but I don’t always have a second phone to hotspot off and it also uses my mobile data no Wifi so the question now is how do I get it to work on Wifi?
thanks john

Hi Chidgeyjohn,

Thanks for the details. The objective of testing and observing if the Chromecast device would work well with the hotspot is not to keep it there but to prove that something is on the network that is causing this. The network issue is so broad that the best way to identify if it’s the Chromecast device or the router that has the problem is by trial by elimination. We took your network (router) out of the picture by introducing a mobile hotspot, and it worked. Now we know: should you factory reset your router? Should we reposition it? Is it the internet speed? It’s easier to break it down from there. And the best people to help are your service provider or the router manufacturer. I hope this gives clarity to the situation. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy

Vodafone are asking what physical settings chromecast need on the modem so it will connect. Please understand standard I am not a tech but they have me log into the modem via ip address to change it once you provide the information

thanks John

Hi Kimy

just wanted to clarify all our other devices are connecting to the Wifi that is iPhones, smart tv and smart lights all the chromecasts are connecting to Wifi and you can see them in the Google home app but when I go to streaming apps I can not see the chromecasts only the smart tv. Hope the make it clear as Wi-Fi supplier staying it a google problem.

Hello Chidgeyjohn,

I understand. Other users usually resolve this by performing a factory reset on their routers. But if your SSID and password are personalized, you may need to modify them again. That’s why we don’t suggest this and advise users to contact their service provider (if they provided the router) or the router manufacturer. The last thing we want is to make it complicated. There's really nothing much to add to the router setting; it needs to be as simple as a regular home network (WLAN). Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Kimy
