Netflix proxy error

jeffathomp
Community Member

About a week ago all of the region restricted content on Netflix disappeared from my Chromecast with Google TV. I can see all of the regular content as normal on my other devices. When casting from another device to my chromecast I receive an error saying that I am using a VPN or proxy service. I am not. Netflix support says that this is a chromecast problem and not their fault. AT&T also indicated that this is a problem with the device settings.

Hey there jeffathomp,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for your patience! Were you able to fix that location issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • Does this issue only occur when trying to cast Netflix?
  • Does this occur on both the Netflix app and website?
  • Have you set your location in the home app?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

The issue resolved itself for a few days, but it has now recurred. It is confined to Netflix. Most of the content on the Android TV app is blocked and I cannot cast from Android apps to the TV, but I can use a Chrome browser on PC or Mac. The location has been set. I have had multiple unproductive calls with Netflix. I have factory reset my Chromecast. I have confirmed with my ISP that there are no proxies on my connection. The ISP has factory reset and replaced my router. I attempted to use a VPN to get around the VPN blocker. I had not used a VPN before the error started.

That is very strange! I found this Netflix article with some steps that may help, but if Netflix themselves weren't able to resolve the issue, then maybe not. If you have already attempted to clear the Netflix app's cache, re-installed Netflix on the Chromecast, and even tried to use a VPN to get around the VPN blocker, it may require some deeper investigation. While I am not sure if the issue is with the Chromecast device itself, would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via Google TV? That way, our engineering team may be able to look into it and see if there is any issue on Chromecast's side of things.

Best regards,

Jeran

How can I submit the feedback? The link is incorrect.

I suspect a programing issue with the Netflix Android TV app. I am experiencing blocking on the Chromecast with Google TV, an ATT.TV box, Playstation 4 and the native app on a Sharp TV. (All written for Android TV?) I am not being blocked on the Android app, older versions of Chromecast without the native app, or browsers on Mac and PC.

Oh, shoot! I just fixed that broken link, but here it is again:

That is an interesting issue! It may be worth bringing this up to the Android TV support, but if you submit feedback using the link above, Google TV will be able to look into this problem either way.

Thank you for your patience on this,

Jeran

The content on Netflix came back again last night. I hope it will stay back.
