Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. The right way to cast from a computer using the Google Chrome browser is by clicking on the three dotsMore menu icon located on the top right of the browser, then choosing the option “Cast” from the dropdown. You can right-click the cast button and choose “Always show the icon,” but chances are, if there’s any changes or updates to your Chrome browser itself, you may need to do that again. I hope this helps. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy

There is no option 'Cast' from the dropdown. Do you understand? There is no option for cast anymore in the dropdown. In the new Chrome update, which is almost impossible to avoid, there is  NO CAST OPTION in the drop down menu anymore. It is not hidden, it has not moved, it's no longer there. Do you get it? It's not there.

I'm so sick of so called tech support people writing things like 'just go to 'cast' and click on'.  There is NO CAST option.

Hi NedPhotog,

Thanks for posting here. I’m sorry about the changes that happened with the Chrome browser, making users confused about what to do. I checked the Google Chrome Help Community and found this thread: i cant find the Cast button in menu, and it seems to have been trending during that time. I hope this helps.

Your Chromecast devices are working as intended, just like the people in that thread. There’s just an update on your Chrome browser that kind of stirred things up. All is well now, and if you still have questions related to the Chrome browser, you can post there. If you have concerns with your Chromecast device, then we’re here at your service.

Cheers,

Kimy

That's how I always found the cast button, but it's no longer visible there.

Hi folks,

For those who can’t seem to find the answer here in this thread, let me share this again in a summarized manner.

Kindly go to the 3 dots from the upper right and scroll down to click Save and Share; from there, you’ll find the Cast option at the bottom.

If you want to keep the cast icon, try this:

  1. As soon as you click Cast under Save and Share, the message box will pop out, and it’s looking for devices.
  2. From there, you’ll see the cast icon itself aligned with the 3 dots (upper right).
  3. Right-click the cast icon and put a check on the "Always Show icon".

I hope this helps. Let us know if you still have other concerns.

Thanks,

Kimy

Ok. How can I get it back on dropdown ?

Hi olgastellm,

Thanks for posting here. If you want the cast option back in the drop-down, I suggest you send feedback via the Chrome browser. You can join the discussion here in this thread: i cant find the Cast button in menu, or create a new thread here in the Google Chrome Help Community. We’re here if you need help with your Chromecast device.

Thanks,

Kimy

Kimy is not helping you. Here's what I had to do. I completely deleted Chrome, go to uninstall programs and fully uninstall it, including manually going into your program files and deleting the Google Chrome folder. Then I downloaded the older version of Chrome, the last one before the recent update. Before you install it, disconnect from the internet. Then install the older version of Chrome and prevent it from updating.  There are a few ways of doing this, I did option number 2: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-automatic-chrome-updates-windows/    And then restart your computer and allow it to connect to the internet. Open Chrome and you should see the CAST option in the dropdown menu as before. Do not let it update.  You will lose all your bookmarks and saved work but this is the only way I have found to continue using ChromeCast with your computer.  Due to this experience, I will never buy another Google product again. Shame on them for disabling a product that thousands of people have purchased from them.  If you make a purchase from Google, they will make it worthless whenever they feel like it. Bad business.

This worked perfectly.  Thank you!.  BUT WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY PUT IT THERE??

Hi MiJü24,

Thanks for joining this thread. We’re sorry if it made you break some sweat, the good thing is you found it. Moving forward, this is how we all cast using the Chrome browser. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns related to your Chromecast device.

I hated almost everything about the new look, including the limited right click menu you had to scroll to find things.

I found this, where you can uncheck the "new look" features from Chrome.  I just checked off the first 2 boxes and my chrome is back to how it looked a few days ago.

Go to chrome://flags and search for refresh 2023 (it will find 4 flags) and uncheck the first two boxes.

How to disable Google Chrome new design on Windows 11, now rolling out

Happy browsing.  And casting, if you use that feature.

Hi folks,

We appreciate what you shared here, @NedPhotog and @Jonesy_Shwemes.

I sent the help I can provide, which is sharing the link to our Google Chrome Help Community. They are the experts for Google Chrome and know more about the changes that happened with the browser. We may be under one Google umbrella, but this community is for Chromecast, and apparently, your Chromecast devices are working as intended. If there’s something wrong with your Chromecast device itself, you can count on me here.

Feel free to create a new thread if you have concerns with your Chromecast device.

Cheers,

Kimy

You didn't quite get their cast working again though.  If they do what I told them to do they can get their cast working again.  Simple as that.

Hi Jonesy_Shwemes,

We hear you and appreciate your efforts here. For anyone who has a different approach to resolving this, we’d be grateful if you’re willing to share. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Kimy

Well done!  Instead of dodging the question, you found a fix.  Bravo!!

THIS IS THE ANSWER!

Thank you for giving us a direct answer instead of an unhelpful, boilerplate response.

Jesus, it's like the mods DON'T want to solve the problem.

I recently discovered that the Cast button has reappeared in the drop down menu.  Chrome must have fixed the problem.

Google needs to update the Chromecast help page about this topic. I *just* found the Cast command hidden in the Save and Share submenu of Tools.

I cannot find the save and share button ANYWHERE on the app. PLEASE HELP! Can't cast on my chromcast nor Google home.

Hi SelenaH,

Thanks for joining this thread. You mentioned that yours is an app. If you’re talking about Chrome browser on smartphones, tablets, and/or handheld devices, then it doesn’t have this feature because the Chrome browser app itself is not a cast-enabled app. This thread is talking about Chrome browsers on computers (Windows, Mac OS, etc.). There’s a huge difference, even in the file size. I hope this sheds some light on the situation. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
