No output on HDMI to Sony TV from Chromecast HD

VinayDand

My new Chromecast HD - Google TV device doesn't generate screen output on Sony TV's HDMI input. Same HDMI input works ok when connected to a DVR output.

If I connect same Chromecast HD device to HDMI input of my ViewSonic monitor, I can see Google TV connection screen on the monitor with violet background, and weird colours.
Seems HDMI output from Chromecast HD device doesn't work with my Sony TV's HDMI input and partially working with ViewSonic monitor.
I have done factory reset on the device. Software update on the device using ViewSonic monitor.
Still can't use with Sony TV's HDMI input.
TV's Screen remains blank with only Google TV 'device name' displayed on the HDMI input selection.

Any Help resolving the issue will be appreciated.

Hi Vinay, we just spoke over in the Google TV community!

A few questions:

  • What colour is the light on the Chromecast itself (not the remote)?
  • Are you using the original power supply and adapter that it came with?
  • Do you know the model of Sony TV you have?

Try these steps:

  1. Shut down the TV completely by turning off and disconnecting the power cord from the power source.
  2. Disconnect the Chromecast from the HDMI port. If the Chromecast is plugged into the power source, disconnect it.
  3. Turn on the TV, then reconnect the power source to the Chromecast device. Don't plug the Chromecast into the TV HDMI port yet.
  4. Wait for 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the Chromecast device into an HDMI port on the TV.
  6. Change the TV to the same HDMI input as the Chromecast.
  7. If there are multiple ports available on the TV, try steps 1-6 with a different HDMI port.

Do you happen to have another TV? If so, does it do the same thing with that TV?

Hello David,

Some details

  • Color of light on the Chromecast is White
  • I am using the original power supply and adapter included with the Chrmecast box
  • Sony LCD TV model is BRAVIA EX72 - (40EX72) march 2011

Going to try out suggested further steps and report back shortly.

Thanks for the pointers

Hi,

I tried out all 4 HDMI inputs on the TV. (followed suggested sequence 1 to 6)

Still No output on my TV screen.

Next step will be to try on neighbours TV. This will take some time

No problem. In the meantime, I've also asked a specialist to review this topic and advise on next steps.

It would also help the Chromecast team investigate this issue if you complete the following survey:

Hi,

The chromecast works perfecly on other TVs that I can try.

It works on other Sony 46EX520 July 2011 model
It also works on Sony KLV-24P413D July 2017 model

In my TV, I plugged an Amazon FireStick in HDMI, This also works on my TV

But plugging Chromecast device still results in black screen.

Next step will be getting the TV checked with a Sony technician for HDMI functioning (As it looks like Chromecast works on other TVs except mine, somehow)

Will post the result once that is done.

Hello,

It was issue with HDMI ports on the TV.

TV's port works with other HDMI devices but output from Chromecast can not be seen.

Sony's technicain can not find the fault.

A private TV technician does some bypass on internal coil circuitary of the TV and Chromecast starts displaying on the TV.
Detailed technical reasons are beyond my knowledge. Updating this to close the topic.

Thanks for the interest shown on resolving the issue.

Regards,

Vinay
