I don't know where to begin, but this thing is sooooo bad...
When I turn it on it doesn't work the first time even though the LED on the Chromecast lights up with the controller. Nothing happens.. I have to unplug the Chromecast and plug it back in everytime for it to work.
The assistant won't listen when I hold down the button before like the 8th try, it won't open apps even though they are available to open on the device, tells me a tv show is unavailable on a streaming service even though it isn't.. It has literally caused so much more frustration than it has done any good. Wow.. Just wow..

Hello Kulekiwi,
Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community forum and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Let's sort this out.
Quick questions: what's the color of the LED on your Chromecast with Google TV (4K)? How far is it from the Wi-Fi router?
Give these steps a try:
Thanks,
Jennifer

Tried everything except factory reset, but just discovered something interesting.
I've been out of the house for about 30h, and this time I powered on the TV screen without touching the Chromecast. But the Chromecast was already on... So it might look like the Chromecast remote turns off the Cast when it turns on the TV screen or something like that..
No idea how the Chromecast has been on for such a long period of time though, but I guess factory reset is my best bet as a first step. Will try that soon.

sounds lie you are having the same problem as me. The chromecast 4k doesn't work well with the remote when it is behind the TV (TV wall mounted). I first noticed the up button wouldn't work and it would "buffer" the up command in the remote until I would wave the remote about till it got a better connection to the TV and then it would send all the commands that didn't get sent.

Hello markdj,
Thanks for sharing your experience about this. There are instances when the Chromecast Voice Remote might not properly communicate with the Chromecast device. Adding to what you've mentioned, in case this happens again, you need to make sure the distance between the remote and Chromecast device should not exceed to 10 meters, which is the maximum range of the Chromecast Voice Remote. Also, you can move the remote closer to the TV, move the dongle away from other HDMI cables, and move the position of the dongle, then flip it over.

Jennifer

Tried all that. It just doesn't work through TV, only 1 metre away from dongle but TV in between. I have to go to the side of the TV for the voice to work on remote. I have ordered an extension as flipping and moving dongle hasn't helped. I'm still looking for a solution to getting Dts out but have posted in a different place about that.

Hi there,
Yikes! Could you please go to Settings > System > About > Factory Reset. Then, select Factory Reset again, and select Erase to confirm the reset? If the issue persists use new or alternative batteries. Manually resetting the Chromecast with Google TV and Voice Remote might also help.

Jennifer

Nothing has changed so far. I have purchased an hdmi extension lead and I'm going to try that as the Chromecast works ok if I plug it into my av receiver.

Hey there markdj,
I'm just checking up on this thread; were you able to test out that HDMI extension?

Yes, Chromecast is over to the edge of the TV and is now working correctly. TV is a 55" Samsung BU8000
