I use Downloader to sideload apps to my CCWGTV HD but I am having no success in getting files to transfer and install whether from Google Play Store or 3rd party sites. I've followed the recommended steps to set up Downloader, namely getting Developer status and enabling unknown sources. but I get as as installing an app and it goes no further. I've reset the CC a couple of times with no effect.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Enable USB/WIFI Debugging and use adb to install the apps from a PC/Laptop via command prompt:
adb connect IP:Port
adb install -r C:\apks\foo.apk
adb disconnect IP:Port

I don't really understand this.
Here's my queries:-
Enable usb/wifi Debugging - is this from Chromecast settings?
adb settings - are these through Cmd on my Windows laptop? and how do I then use adb to install apps?

@MagicAndre1981 I am using AFTV's Downloader browser entirely from and to my CC. If I follow or try to follow your steps and the link to enabling debugging do I do this from my Windows laptop and Chrome browser?

if you download the files directly to the chromecast, install a file management app like this one open the file management app, navigate to download folder and select the apk, now allow the file manager to install apps.

@MagicAndre
I'm not having a good day with my CC. I thought your last suggestion would be the most appropriate for me. However, I have been unable to find File Transfer Plus through the Google Play Store on my CC and when i loaded Downloader to use its browser when i try and load the keyboard to do a search I am faced with a different non-responsive keyboard with an otherwise blank screen with just the URL of the AFTVnews (Downloader) at the top and not responding to my remote. I have X-Plore installed as my so far unused File Manager but it doesn't seem to have the same function as you described with File Transfer Plus which I can easily access through the Play Store on my Chrome Windows browser.
I have uninstalled Downloader twice and reset my CC but still the same which makes it unusable.

I had become obsessed with installing an Equilizer/Bass Booster to improve the sound quality of my 5.1 Blu Ray system and was determined not to give up. So having tried other methods without success probably due to my lack of understanding some, I reverted to Downloader and ensured I was downloading the APK of my chosen Equalizer and it worked first time - or so I thought. Even though the app was downloaded and installed it wouldn't open even with the use of a couple of file managers. It was included in the list of Apps in Settings it wasn't included in My Apps
So I downloaded another app which installed and opened and I was able to get it set up. However, when I went to My Apps it wasn't there but it was in the list of Apps in Settings. I remember reading somewhere of someone being faced with the same issue so I will try and find it.

As I am only an ordinary user of CWGTV HD not a developer the links you posted are of no practical use to me and the situation about sideloaded apps not appearing in my Home Screen list still applies with the Equaliser app but not with the SmartTube app (an app to load YouTube without ads) which does appear in my Home Page list. So I have no objection to the thread being closed.
