Problems with keyboard on CCWGTV HD

Had been using the Downloader app with no particular functionality issues including bringing up the keyboard to typoe in URLs or Search terms in its browser. Recently when i tried to load the previous keyboard I was presented with a new keyboard occupying nearly half of the screen with the remainder being plain white with just a URL, that of the parent AFTV, at the top. See screenshot Keyboard pic.jpg

However, none of the buttons on the remote worked and I had to exit by the Home button. I thought it was the app and tried several times to reinstall it with no effect. I also tried resetting the CC and Wi-Fi router.

I have just tried to do an apps search from in the CC expecting the normal keyoard but was rewarded with the same screen as in the Downloader browser.

Any explanations for this please?

I was thinking to do a Factory Reset of my CC hoping that would reinstate a working keyboard but first of all when I thought I would first reinstall the current keyboard, which is Gboard (Google Virtual Keyboard, it was shown as unenabled but the switch would not go over to enabled. So I went to the App Setting for keyboard which said that it was open. So I clicked on Uninstall and the option that came  was to uninstall recent updates which I confirmed but instead of Uninstalling the app it went back to uninstall recent updates. None of the switches to uninstall Gboard worked.

Finally before my last resort of a Factory Restore I thought I would try installing an alternative virtual keyboard. Google Play Store offered LeanKey Keyboard Pro which seemed to have all the functions I'd needed from Gboard, so installed it without a hitch and it is summonsed up and works just like Gboard did before it started with the problems outlined in my topic post

So no Factory Reset for this issue.

Hi Arandora1,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. I'm glad to hear that you found a way to sort this out. And yes, if your workaround fails, you can do a factory reset. I’ll keep this thread open for one more day. If you need further help, let me know.

Thanks,

Kimy
