9 to 5 is reporting there is a firmware update for Gen 3 Chromecast devices with firmware number 1.56.275994. Can the firmware update process be manually started or will the Chromecast just decide it is ready to be updated and let me know somehow?

If it's anything like our cameras, doorbells, and Nest Hubs, Google Nest will just decide when to push the updates and will NOT let us know.

Hi Jeran,
The only answer that I got was in relation to the experience with various Nest devices. Not sure if the experience would be the same, so probably yes I could use a more specific response to how the Gen 3 Chromecast handles firmware updates.

Hey there Sarsha,
No problem, check out this article on updates to your Chromecast. For a Chromecast 3rd generation, yes, Google will push out updates automatically to your device. Currently, the only Chromecast devices that you can choose to manually update are both the Chromecast with Google TV devices.
I hope that helps, let me know if you had any other questions.
Best regards,
Jeran
