Setting up a 1st generation Chromecast with a Pixel of Nexus 5.

Title pretty much says it all. I recently changed routers and can no longer set up a 1st generation Chromecast. Setup tells me to use a non Pixel device. But it doesn't like a Nexus 5 either. I do not have a non Google phone to set it up and you can no longer use a laptop. I have pretty much tried every suggestion to no avail. Is my Chromecast dead? And why would Google take away the ability to set it up with a Pixel?

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear about that. May I know if you were able to download the Device Utility app and use it to setup your Chromecast? If you haven't yet, please download that app and do the set up. See the steps listed below:

  1. Download the Device Utility app.
  2. Open the Device Utility app.
  3. Allow Location access so that the app can detect nearby Bluetooth signals and determine its location during the device activation process.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Disconnect from the Wi-Fi network.
  6. The app starts to look for devices.
  7. Activate the device.
  8. Finish the activation.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer
