Unreliable casting

For years I used the browser on my Chromebook to cast mostly BBC iPlayer and Sky News. For 18 months or so I have had occasional problems. The Cast button fails to appear or I see a dialogue inviting me to cast to "This computer" or the TV - that never works.

Sometimes I can restore sanity if I go to my Android Phone, open the Home App and "cast screen" the stop casting screen - but not always.

A restart of the Chromebook usually sorts the problem, but sometimes I need to restart both Chromebook and Chromecast Dongle.

Any ideas?

  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast?
  • Have you already followed the steps listed in this article?
  • Does this casting issue only occur with your Chromebook in particular?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
