Hi
The issue has only recently started. As far as I recall, nothing substantive has changed. Until the last week, it has been working fine.
In Youtube Kids, the Cast button is missing. All is OK with other apps (eg Netflix, screen mirroring). The android tablet and the chromecast (2nd gen) are definitely on the same network, and I have tried resetting and reinstalling everything that I think could be related, with no luck.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey there KP2104,
I did some digging around, and I found this article called "What is a supervised experience on YouTube", under the section "Features Turned Off", it does look like Google has disabled the ability for supervised accounts to cast. Sadly, your child will not be able to cast while logged into their supervised accounts.
I hope that answers your question, I'm sorry there isn't a workaround, aside from creating a new account. If you had other questions or concerns, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran

Thanks for your reply. I read about that back in March posts, but I thought it had been fixed. I now find that the problem also affects Youtube, not just Kids, and seems to be on one device only. It does not affect screen mirroring or Netflix etc on that device, only Youtube and Youtube, so the chromecast setup seems to be OK. Kids. However, I have searched and tried all solutions suggested, with no luck. My current thinking is that it is not possible to cast from supervised accounts, but that does not explain why it was all working until about a week ago.

Heya KP2104,
As far as I am aware, you should be able to cast from both YouTube and YouTube Kids. Let me just ask you a couple of questions about this issue:
Also, it may be worth asking the YouTube community about this particular issue to see if anyone else is experiencing it!

Hi Jeran. Thank you for checking. I still have the problem but have not had the time to try other things. The tablet is relatively new running Android 10, and both Youtube kids and Google home are updated to the most recent available through Google Play. I can cast without problems from another device on the same network, but logged in as myself rather than as my child on a supervised account. My next step is to remove my child's log in from the problem device and log in as myself and see if that helps. From reading on other sites, it seems that supervised accounts with youtube and youtube kids may be the problem. I can cast from other apps (eg Netflix) from the problem device. I hope to do this test this weekend, so I would appreciate it if you could keep the thread open another week.

Hi again.
I have investigated further by setting up another account for me on my child's tablet. When logged in under my username, everything works fine. Casting to chromecast works for all applications including you tube and you tube kids. On the same tablet, when logged in as my child (with a supervised account) youtube and youtube kids will not cast (no cast button appears) although other applciations (eg screencast and netflix) work fine.
So the problem casting is definitely casting youtube and youtube kids to chromecast from a supervised account.
Any ideas appreciated!

Thank you for finding that. Google's action makes no sense to me. We have been using casting so that we can keep an eye on what our child is watching.

Of course! I can see where Google is coming from by disabling casting for the younger ones, but I think it would be better if parents had the option to allow/disallow the option. If you had the time, I'd recommend submitting feedback via the Google Home app, letting Google know that you'd like the option.
In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns?

Jeran
