I have a Chromecast device connected to a Samsung TV which I have used for years. Recently when I access the Chromecast I get a message that the device is not connected. I have disconnected and reconnected the device, rebooted, checked the wi-fi , but still get the same message that the device is not connected.

A few questions: what type of Chromecast device do you have? How far is it from the Wi-Fi router? Are there any recent changes in your Wi-Fi network? Please reinstall the Google Home app and reset your Chromecast. Also, try to manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.
