As long as your laptop and Chromecast device are on the same WiFi network, distance doesn't matter.

So, yes, that will work.

Keep in mind that you can't use a laptop to setup a Chromecast the first time.  You have to have a compatible phone or tablet running the Google Home app to do setup.  But, once you've done the setup, you CAN use a laptop to cast.
