iPhone won't connect to Chromecast

scottmacc

Basically, Chromecast used to work fine, I went on a holiday overseas (where I updated my iphone software) came back and I can't connect to Chromecast.

Chromecast comes up on all my streaming apps but when I try to stream to it, either the app crashes or it just doesn't connect. Weird thing is that my housemates iphones connect fine with chromecast so it seems like my phone is the issue.

I've tried everything besides deleted all my apps. I've reset Chromecast, messed about with iphone settings, turned my phone off and on, tried things that worked for other people with similar issues. Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Hi @scottmacc

Could you try the following:

Step 1. Make sure Local Network Access is enabled

  1. On your iOS device’s home screen (iOS 14 or later), tap Settings
  2. Tap Privacy RXShorty_0-1666122015243.png Local Network. You’ll find a list of apps.
  3. Turn on Local Network Access for the app(s) you would like to allow access to your network. This will allow permissions for your device to discover Cast-enabled devices.

For more information: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7172427

All my cast-enabled apps are connected.  It’s just bugging out when I try to connect to them. I’ve even reset chromecast, set it up as a new name on Google home app and then the Google home app itself can’t connect chromecast (the name of the device comes up but it just fails to connect when I tap it).

I’ve just reset my iPhone and reset the wifi, chromecast and reconnected Google home. Still doesn’t work. Thinking about switching to android at this point.

Hey there scottmacc,

I'm just following up on this thread, I'm really sorry that this has been such a headache for you! Just to confirm, is your Google TV's firmware and your iPhone both up-to-date on their updates? If so, are you getting any specific error message when you try to cast? This would help narrow down the potential issues. I would also double-check that your Chromecast and iPhone are both on the same network band, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

Best regards,
Jeran
