my 2 chromecast devices won’t setup using the same phone within the same spectrum community wifi

I have two chromecast 2nd gen. I’ve been having connectivity issues since I moved to this apt complex that requires using only their spectrum community wifi. I was able this time to set up one of the chromecast with my iPhone, the second chromecast was setup using a Samsung android phone. However, even though both devices are setup using the same wifi, they aren’t recognized by the other phone, for instance, the one device I set up using my phone isn’t recognized by the android and viceversa.

Hey there Aby1979,

I apologize about the delayed response, thank you for being patient! Just out of curiosity, is this a public Wi-Fi network? If so, it may not function correctly with the Chromecast device, as the Chromecast needs to talk with the router, which you may not have access to. However, if you do continue using this network and are successfully able to set up your Chromecast, make sure the devices are all on the same network band when you set it up, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi there,

It's us again. How's it going? Do you still need help?

Thanks for the help, Jeran.

Regards,

Jennifer

Hello,

My wifi is through a community wifi, I don’t have access to a router nor to select whether is 2.4 or 5Ghz, I only get a password to connect to. These devices have worked in the past but now they are not working as they used to, I think it definitely has to do with how this internet is set up.

Hey there Aby1979,

They must have changed something around to make the Chromecast no longer functional. If you did want to continue using the Chromecast on the community Wi-Fi, you may have to reach out to whoever owns the Wi-Fi network to see if they can help you get the device set-up. Just note, that it may not work with the amount of devices that are connecting to a community Wi-Fi, as well as others on the same network would have access to cast on your device.

I hope this helps, and if you had any other questions or concerns, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hello Jeran, sorry on my delayed answer. At this point there’s nothing I can do about this cause the internet company continues staying the problem is on the device and not on their wifi settings, even though we proved this to be the case by connecting the devices using cellphones as hotspots, and both devices worked fine. You can go ahead and close this thread. Thank you!

Hiya Aby1979,

Goodness, I am sorry to hear that! Hopefully in the near future, your Chromecast will work with their Wi-Fi network. I suppose you may your mobile hotspots in the meantime if they work properly, though I wouldn't recommend it unless you have unlimited data.

I'll go ahead and lock this thread for now, if you run into any more issues in the future, please feel free to create a new thread

Thank you for your help with this, Jennifer!

Best regards,

Jeran
