The exact phrasing of your command:
Turn on back yard fan
What you’re trying to accomplish
Turn on back patio fan
What response you get from your Assistant when you issue the command
You haven't set up that device yet
----
We call the "room" in our backyard "Back Patio" and front yard "Front Yard." In the past I think I couyuse interchangeably.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the response is to be expected.
Google Nest has no idea that your "Back Patio" is in your back yard; "Back Patio" is just a name, and "back yard" is not a concept known to Google Nest.

Hi folks,
@MplsCustomer, thanks for the help.
@Mattbroffman, thanks for posting. I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out. A few things: Are you able to control the fan using your Google Home app? What is the name of the fan that you are trying to control? How many fans are linked in your Google Home app?
You can try the command "Start the <fan name>." and observe if this will work.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Juni

Sorry. I posted this because of an email asking for areas where we think there can be language processing improvements. I can turn the fan on if I use the explicit name "fan" and the right room name "back yard". Ideally I could also say "back patio" and google recognizes I meant back yard. That's all. No help needed.
