Hi, I have a Google Nest Learning Thermostat and did have a Nest Hub Gen 2.
My question is, if I remove the Hub, will the thermostat still be able to be controlled using a phone? Or do I need the Hub to be with the thermostat for features like that?
I have removed the Hub and was just using the thermostat to turn the heating on and off when needed, but can I use the phone to turn the heating on before I come home?
If I need a nest to use that feature, what must I get, must be a google nest or works with other smart hubs, speakers, devices too?
I have moved the hub to another house as I wasn't using it, but maybe I should have left to be able to set the heating on via phone?
Thanks for any advice and replies, it's appreciated

Yes, you can still control your Google Nest Learning Thermostat using your phone after removing the hub. The thermostat has a built-in Wi-Fi connection, so you can connect it to your home network and control it from anywhere using the Google Nest app. The hub is not required for basic thermostat functionality, such as turning the heat on and off or adjusting the temperature.
However, you will need the hub to use some of the thermostat's more advanced features, such as remote scheduling and geofencing. Remote scheduling allows you to schedule the thermostat to turn on or off at specific times, even when you're not home. Geofencing uses your phone's location to automatically turn the thermostat on or off when you leave or arrive home.
If you want to use these advanced features, you can either purchase a new Nest Hub or use a third-party smart home hub that supports Google Nest products. Some compatible hubs include the Amazon Echo Show, Samsung SmartThings Hub, and Hubitat Elevation Hub.

I hope this helps!

Hi folks,
@LookingToLearn, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I wanted to check if you still need help with this. Have you had any chance to review pablolari’s response above? If yes, how was it?
You can manually adjust your thermostat’s temperature in the app or directly on the thermostat. You can check out the guide below for more information:
Change the temperature on a Nest thermostat.
I appreciate your help, pablolari.
All the best,
Lance
