Can't Invite Home Member

mooredynasty
Community Member

I'm trying to invite another person to a Google Home I'm the owner of, but when I type his email address and tap Next, nothing happens.

I've seen this thread which was never answered and this help page which only describes the "happy path" on which everything works.

If it matters, this is a Home that came over from Nest after the acquisition.

Thanks,

Marc

The answer seems to be that one can only invite another Google-registered email address; e.g., Gmail. YMMV.

Hey mooredynasty,

Thanks for reaching out — let's check this out.

  • Anyone who joins the customer’s local Wi-Fi network gets an option in the Google Home app to join the home. This action doesn’t give the person the access to the customer’s devices, but it sends a request to the current home members. The current home members can approve or deny that request.
  • Certain accounts don't have the ability to be a home member. You can't invite the persons with the following accounts:
  1. Google Workspace (G Suite) accounts
  2. Google Account for children under 13 (or the applicable age in the customer's country)

Check this guide for more information.

Alex
