Can't connect 3rd party apps to Google Home

JesusFreak

I have a few "works with Google" devices, but I can't seem to connect the apps anymore. It started when I added a couple more outlets that use Cloud Intelligence and went to add them to my profile. When I tap on the app in the list I get a prompt to "reconnect account" or "unlink account."

I tap "reconnect account" and go through the sign-in process, it takes me back to the screen where I'm prompted to select a google device or "works with google". Then when I tap on the app again it loops me back through the same process.

I tried using "unlink account" and starting from scratch but that just drops me back into the same login loop as "reconnect account."

I tried doing this on 2 different phones (I'm in the process of moving from one carrier to another) with the same result. I can log in to the host app and control devices just fine. I'm having the same problem with all 3 platforms for which I have devices, Kasa, Cloud Intelligence, and eWeLink. Kasa has been giving me problems for a while which I blame on TP Link, but eWeLink has been working fine until now.

Hey JesusFreak,

Thanks for reaching and that certainly hasn't been easy for you — let's check this out.

A few questions: what Google Home or Google Nest speaker or display do you have? Can you still control your devices to their native app? Also, make sure they're all connected to the same network.

Give these steps a try:

  • Uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app.
  • Reboot your devices together with your router to refresh their connection.
  • Force close all the apps you've opened.
  • Reboot your phone.

Best,

Alex

I have a combination of older Google Home Mini devices as well as newer Google Nest Minis. I can control all the devices just fine with my native app. It's also worth noting that devices I've already connected through this process currently work just fine. I just can't add new ones.

One of the phones I was trying to set this up on is brand new. I tried uninstalling and resintalling the app anyway but I am still getting the same behavior.

Another note is that I do use the Google enhanced account protection, and I wonder if something they've changed recently is causing issues.

Hi JesusFreak,

Account protection might cause your new devices not to be added on your Google Home app, have you tried temporarily turning it off? Also, try asking your Nest Hub "sync my devices" to see if that helps.

Best,

Alex
