Chromecast audio keeps unlinking

I've been using CCAs for years. They have always been no more than 10 feet from my router and have always worked flawlessly. I ask YouTube music to stream a playlist and it does.

Until a couple nights ago. The one in my bedroom unlinked from Home. It just wasn't an option to cast to anymore, whereas the one in my living room was. No furniture had been moved, nothing was different in the house, the Internet was working (I can't overstate this enough). I unplugged it, relinked it through Home, cast a playlist. It played for about 2 minutes and unlinked again. Just not available to cast to.

So I held the reset button for a bit, set it up again. It played music, it unlinked. Moved it a few feet closer to the router, unplugged again, set up again, cast again, unlinked again.

Any fix?

Hi @BiggleGooper

Thank you for your timely post and the comprehensive information you've provided.

I'm sorry to hear that you're encountering issues with your Chromecast audio disconnecting. I understand how frustrating this can be. Don't worry, I'm here to help you troubleshoot and find a solution together.

To assist you with the best solution, I would like to get a bit more information:

  • What is the model of your Chromecast device?
  • Is your Chromecast currently connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your Wi-Fi network?
  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area recently?
  • What mobile device did you use to set up your Chromecast?
  • Have you tried any other troubleshooting steps besides those mentioned?
  • Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app?
  • Have you tried connecting your Chromecast to a different power source?
  • Is the Google Home app updated?

Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy @cifuentesj! Thanks for taking the time for this.

  • What is the model of your Chromecast device? RUX-J42
  • Is your Chromecast currently connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network? 5 GHz
  • Have there been any recent changes to your Wi-Fi network? Nope
  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area recently? Nope
  • What mobile device did you use to set up your Chromecast? My pixel 4a
  • Have you tried any other troubleshooting steps besides those mentioned? I swapped the misbehaving chrome cast out for the one we normally use in another room, and that one works perfectly where the misbehaving one didn't.
  • Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app? I haven't, but absolutely can.
  • Have you tried connecting your Chromecast to a different power source? I haven't, but can, though again, the one from the other room is working perfectly on the misbehaving one's power cable, so it doesn't seem to be that.
  • Is the Google Home app updated? Yes.
