Google Home app First Alert

In the Home app, up until last week I could raise/lower my thermostat within the app. I had little widget like section that was like + 68º - so I could open the Home app and tape the + or - and easily change the temperature. My thermostat uses the First Alert app and it was linked in the Home app and it worked perfectly until an update.

Now it is missing and no matter how many times I add and link accounts, it does not show up in my devices. I really miss having the + / - section in the Home app.

Is this a bug with the Home app or with First Alert?

Hi @Phrosty23

Thanks for reaching out to the community!  I understand that after a recent update, your thermostat has completely disappeared from your Google Home device list. Even though you’ve repeatedly re-linked the First Alert account, the device won't reappear. Specifically, you're missing the quick-control widget (the +/- buttons) that allowed you to adjust the temperature directly from the Home tab. I know how important this option is for you, and I appreciate you troubleshooting the account linking already. Don’t worry, help is here!

To better assist you, I’d like to gather a bit more information:

  • Could you confirm which specific model of thermostat you have? If possible, please share a photo of it with me.
  • Are both the Google Home and First Alert apps up to date?
  • Is your phone’s operating system running the latest version?
  • Have you tried any other troubleshooting steps yet?

For the moment, I would like you to perform the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Verify the device’s Date and Time settings are correct and automatically set:
    • Settings > General > Date and Time.
    • Tap Set Automatically > toggle it off and then back on.
    • Make sure that the timezone, date, and time are correct.
  • Confirm that the Google Home app has permissions to use the phone's location:
    • For mobile devices, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Home.

Sign out of the Google Home app and sign back in.
Keep me posted.

Regards,

Beula
