Google Nest Can't changes photo frame

acbh
Community Member

I am having an issue with 7 Google Nest devices. The problem is that they cannot display photos from Google Photos and can only show photos from the Art Gallery.

Here are the things I have already tried:
1. Reset the Google Nest.
2. Changed the email account.
3. Created a new album in Google Photos.
4. Unchecked the photos in the Art Gallery.
5. Resized the photos.

This issue likely occurred after the voice assistant update to use Gemini AI.

Perhaps some of you have experienced this and managed to fix it. If so, please share how to resolve this problem.

Thank you.

Hi @acbh,

Thanks for your response and for sharing that information. It's really helpful. Since you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, let's go over the settings in the Google Home app and the Google Photos app to make sure everything is aligned:

  • Open the Google Home app
  • Select the device from Home View
  • Select your Nest display.
  • At the top right, tap Settings > Photo frame. Choose the preferred photo source: Google Photos.

If, after checking the settings in the Google Home app, you verify that Google Photos is enabled, please follow these steps to check the settings in the Google Photos app:

  • Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same Google Account as your Nest Display.
  • Open the Google Photos app.
  • Tap Photos settings > Apps & devices > Photo Frames.
  • Tap the Nest display where the album should appear.
  • Verify that the selected albums match those set in the Google Home app.

Please keep me updated on how it goes after checking these settings.

Regards,
Jonathan

Hi @sicsacol,

We have already taken that step, but it still hasn't worked.

Hi @sicsacol

I'm experiencing the exact same issue regarding Google Photo album previews in the Google Home app. I suspect that the problem started after I upgraded to the latest version of the Google Home application, and it seems the 'curation photo' feature is preventing the album previews from displaying correctly.

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses and for sharing the results of the steps you've taken. Since you've already reset your Nest Display, let's move on to a factory reset. I know that you have multiple Nest Displays experiencing the same Photo Frame issue. As a suggestion, please factory reset just one Nest Display first to check if the issue persists. Please check out the following article to know how to factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

Please let me know the results of this step.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Hi, @sicsacol

I have already done a factory reset and even changed the email. But it still didn't work.

Steps I have taken:

  1. Ensured that both the Google Home app and Google Photos app are set to the same album.

  2. Performed a factory reset.

  3. Created and used a new album.

  4. Avoided selecting photos from the "Art Gallery".

  5. Resized the photos to make them smaller.

  6. For "Personal photo curation," I have selected "Live album only".

FYI, this issue has occurred at 3 hotels simultaneously.

Regards,
ACBH

There is also an issue where you can no longer remove photos from displaying by asking Google. It says it will note that but then just opens YouTube on my display but gets stop on the icon screen.
