Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with Google Nest automations where routines don’t always trigger as expected. Some automations work perfectly, while others fail to run or only work intermittently, even though the conditions haven’t changed.
I’m part of the Funnelsflex team, and I use Google Nest devices regularly to test and understand how automation workflows behave in real-life usage. Consistency is important for us, so this unpredictable behavior has been a bit frustrating.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
Rechecking automation conditions and triggers
Restarting Nest devices and the Google Home app
Ensuring devices and app are fully updated
Removing and recreating the automation
Despite this, the issue still occurs occasionally.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior with Google Nest automations?
Are there known limitations or best practices to improve reliability?
Thanks in advance for any guidance or shared experiences.

Some brands work better with Google (and Alexa) than others.
In my testing LIFX Bulbs seem to have unbreakable bond with Google while other brands aren't as reliable.

For the past 18 hours or so none of my automations are triggering automatically.
I rely on the automations to keep my office warm (i have guinea pigs in there) and its an annex separate from the house.
None of the automations are actually triggering in the execution logs unless i load the google home app and they fire automatically then.... but i cant be opening my app every 30 mins overnight.
Its been working perfectly fine for the past 2 months.
Any help would be great.
(all apps are upto date)

Hi @Funnelsflex,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand you're experiencing some inconsistencies with your automations created in the Google Home app, where certain routines fail to trigger as expected despite no changes in conditions. I appreciate the detailed information you provided regarding the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, such as restarting your Google Nest devices and recreating the routines. It sounds frustrating to experience this unpredictable behavior, especially when you rely on these devices for testing and real-life automation workflows. I'm happy to assist you.
To better understand the cause of the issue you're experiencing, please provide the information requested below:
Please let me know the exact issue you're experiencing with the automations and how you have them set up.
Are you getting any error messages when your automations don't trigger?
How many Google Nest devices do you have, and what are their specific models?
Based on the troubleshooting you’ve already performed, I recommend following the steps in the article Create automations in Google Home with Help me create, specifically those that correspond to the error message you're seeing in the app.
Additionally, I recommend reviewing the article Create advanced home automations with the script editor. The script editor allows you to program scripted automations with additional starters, conditions, actions, and advanced logic.
Keep me posted.
Regards,
Anders
