Google Nest mini/home have problems with names

Fredriks
Community Member

So, I have a Rooms called by the name of the kid that lives there. So one of them is called Wilmers room. This seems to be a real problem for all home related products (it's the same result in both the app on my phone, on the nest mini and other devices to)

If I say: "turn of lights in Wilmers room" the all comply and says:

Turning of lights in Wilmers room

If I say: "turn on lights in Wilmers room" the all reply

"Lights in Vilmers room is not configured"

So... Why does it get the name right on one occation but not the other one (note that it gets the name as Wilmer one time and Vilmer the other time)?

How can I trick it to get it right?

@Fredriks

Is it possible Google Assistant is just having trouble hearing the room's name? We've stuck with generic names for rooms and devices because Google Assistant seems to have trouble with hearing names, even when we enunciate carefully.

I just tried this: "Hey Google, who is Vilmar?" The response was I don't know, try this and showed Wilma from the Flintstones,

I then tried "Hey Google, who is Vilmer?" The response was I don't know, with a page on Bill Maher.

When I say, "Hey Google, show the Alley" or "Hey Google, show the Alley camera" to stream our camera named "Alley", Google Assistant sometimes first displays "LA..." or "Ella..." before self-correcting it to "Alley". It seems to self-correct because we have a generic name.

Hi Fredriks,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you!

The general analysis of @MplsCustomer is correct. a few questions: what Nest speakers do you have other than your Nest Mini? Are they all on the same Wi-Fi network? It would be of big help if you could refresh the link between your devices and your Wi-Fi by doing a sequential reboot. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers. Lastly, reboot your smart lights. Restarting your phone might also help.

Tell us how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hello Fredriks,

We're sorry for the delayed response.

Still having problems with this? If so, have you tried renaming your lights to a much unique name from each other?

Best,

Alex

Hello and thank you for youre answers. I have a nest mini, three Lenovo Smart klock and a nest hub. They all have the same problem with names. Both wilmer and alve is members of the same Google home.

I find it very strange that it can understand if I say "turn on light in Wilmers room" but it failes if I say "turn of light in Wilmers room" (log says it got "turn of light in Vilmers room" (note that it got vilmer with a v and not a w))

I tried to remvove all data in Google home app and reconnect the device but it did not help
