Hi,
Thank's for checking back. I tried your suggestions to no avail. So I guess my original question still stands.
"Why does the Google mini assistant in my bedroom respond when I am talking to the Google assistant on my pixel 6 pro in my hand in the living room?"

Maybe this Google Help topic will answer your question:
"If you’re near your Google Home device and phone, only Google Home should respond to "Hey Google." Both devices may wake up, but your phone should go back to sleep."
I guess it depends on what "near" means.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for reaching out.
@MplsCustomer, thanks for lending a hand.
@Fredd248, I'd like to follow up on the question that you posted. As you noticed, when both your Google Home Mini and phone hear the "Hey Google" or "Okay Google" hotword, only your speaker should answer since that's the one being prioritized. This normally happens when you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Google Home device.
If you have other questions in mind, let me know.
Best,
Lovely
