Google nest hub does not see my nest hello WIRED doorbell

Jerom

I recently bought a google nest hello (WIRED) doorbell together with a google nest hub v2. I choose the wired version so I do not have to charge the doorbell.  I did not encounter any problems installing both products. I can see the video stream from my doorbell in the nest app on my smartphone. I can also see my nest hub in the google home app on my smartphone. So, no WiFi or other connection/power issues. But, I fail to link my Nest Hello WIRED doorbell to my Nest hub v2 device. I would like the hub to make a sound an show the video when someone presses my doorbell. To me this looks like pretty basic functionality. So, I am sure there must be something I am missing here. I can't imagine it would not be possible to set things up for such behavior. In the end both are Google Nest devices and they should be fully compatible. Right?

Hey Jerom,

Thanks for reaching out — let's  see what we can do.

Are you able to use voice commands in streaming your Camera to your Google Nest Hub? If not, make sure your devices are connected to the same network and within 15-20 feet of your router.

Check if the visitors announcement is enabled on your Nest App.

To turn on visitor announcements:

  1. Open the Nest app .
  2. Tap on the Nest Hello video doorbell.
  3. Tap Settings > Visitor announcements.
  4. When asked, follow the onscreen prompts in the Google Home app to complete the setup.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I have only one WiFi network in my home, I can see the "nest hello doorbell" live video stream through my smartphone "Google Nest" app. I can also reach my "Google Nest Hub" via the "Google Home" app on the same smartphone. So, I think both devices are connected properly to my WiFi network.

  • The distance to the router is 12feet for the doorbell and 13feet for the hub.
  • Visitor announcements are enabled
  • Nest hub can not stream the doorbells live video stream. Not through voice commands or any other way

In the mean time I bought a "Google doorbell (Battery)" I installed it and it automatically streamed its video the the "Google Nest Hub" and sounds a chime when I pressed the doorbell button. These two devices integrate flawless as it should. This solves my problem so I will return my "Google Nest Hello (wired)" doorbell to the shop.

Anyway thanks for you support! If you have any other clues why I was not able to set things up porperly with the "Google Nest Hello (wired)" doorbell, please let me know. Else, it might be good to clearly indicate in the documentation that a "Google Nest Hello (wired)" doorbell can not be linked to a "Google Nest Hub" to prevent others from having the same issue.

Thanks,

Jeroen

Hey Jerom,

Thanks for updating the Community forum. Your Google Doorbell (Battery) and Google Nest Hello (wired) should function the same way on your Google Nest Hub. There might be some settings that need to be checked on your Nest Hello (wired) other than that they can be both streamed on your Nest Hub display.

Kind regards,

Alex
