Issues with media alarm on Nest Mini

Paniolo_Man

I hope this question is in the right place.

I've been having trouble for ages with my Nest Mini (H2C) playing a media alarm. I have to get up at a different time every day because of my work schedule so when I go to bed I tell my Nest "play Utah Public Radio at (time)". It then tells me it'll play the station at the time I specify. I ask it if I have an alarm and it will confirm that I do, I also check in the app to be sure.

It'll play the alarm mabey half of the time. It's so unreliable I actually use a 30 year old alarm clock as well because I can't trust this thing to wake me up. I know it's up to date, and has an internet connection. This Nest Mini actually worked well for a while, it replaced a Home Mini that was having a similar issue. I really like waking up to the news but I don't like the coin flip consistency of this thing, I am honestly on the edge of just buying a radio alarm clock because this is literally the only reason I have the thing.

Has anyone had the same issue? Does anyone have tips on how to fix this?.

Thanks,

Nathan

Hi there,

Media alarms are only available in the US according to the Google Nest help center but as a UK user myself I have found that to enable this feature you must use the Google assistant with the US English language.

If a device loses internet connection during the night the alarm will revert to sounding the default alarm sound.

Please have a look at the Google Nest help center link below and check that you are using the correct command for setting a media alarm.

"Set <radio station> radio alarm for 6 AM tomorrow."

Hey Paniolo_Man,

Checking back in to see if you still need help with this. Feel free to respond to this thread if you have additional questions or concerns and I'd be glad to answer it for you.

Best,

Alex

Apologies, my last reply must not have posted.

This hasn't solved my issue. I'm not unable to set alarms, they set just fine. It's that when I do set then they often don't go off. It happened last night, I told it to set the alarm, I went into the audio settings and checked and volume and saw the upcoming alarm. This morning, nothing.  Woke up the the actually reliable alarm on my phone.

Hey Paniolo_Man,

Got it. To confirm, is it only happening to media alarms or also with general alarm? How about setting up music instead of radio? Also, have you tried resetting your Home Mini?

Thanks,

Alex

I did reset it a while ago, but I'll try again. I only use this Nest mini for this alarm so I don't know if it has similar issues with other alarms.

I'll also note that it happened again this morning. The alarm just doesn't go off, is there a way for me to see a list of past alarms so I know I'm not going crazy?

Hey Paniolo_Man,

Understood. Try to check if you can check your device history using this guide. Can you also provide the cast firmware of your device and your Google Home app version?

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Paniolo_Man,

Thanks for letting us know. Take your time, I'll be waiting for your update.

Best,

Alex

The history shows "no events" the media alarm did work today. Perhaps it's just time to retire this Nest Mini.

Thanks for the additional info. Can you please provide your device's cast firmware version?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
