Nest Protect Expiration

sixelarotciv

I’m very upset. I purchased these Nest Protect devices and installed them all over the house mainly for the feature of the path light. They light up with movement at night and especially for power outages and now I’m getting alerts that I have to dispose of them. I get that the smoke alarm feature and or co2 monitoring is not recommended because of a time threshold but they also provide another purpose. A simple banner or disclaimer should be good enough and not force a customer to trash what they purchased for such an expensive price.

Hi sixelarotciv,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're receiving disposal alerts after the expiration of your Nest Protect devices, especially since you rely heavily on the Pathlight and other motion-activated features throughout your home. I can imagine how upsetting it might be to receive alerts about a device's end-of-life when some features are still helping you every day.

Since Nest Protect devices are certified as life safety devices, the mandatory replacement is tied to the lifespan of the critical sensors, not just the battery or lights.

Your feedback on the way that message is delivered is extremely valuable. If you could share your thoughts about the ideal banner or disclaimer directly through our feedback form, we would highly appreciate it.

Please feel free to post any questions you have in this forum.

Sincerely,
Juan
