Nest Protect

Purchased 2 Nest Protect today from Walmart. These were brand new still in original packaging. When I unwrapped them I discovered that they expire on Nov 2025 and Dec 2025. Why is Google allowing the sale of these things when it's clear they are expiring in a few days. Why can't I use the Protect from 10 years of activation. It's ridiculous that they allow the sale of something that was manufactured in 2015 to be sold in 2025.

@Jramos20

Isn't it Walmart's responsibility to not sell smoke detectors of any kind that are far into the standard 10-year lifespan?

We buy our smoke detectors at Home Depot, and sometimes we've gotten ones that are a year old. (Unfortunately, the expiration date is not printed on the box, so you don't know until you get home.)

Hi @Jramos20

Google expects resellers to have good stock rotation policies that ensure stock isn't unnecessarily sitting on shelves leading to this issue. In the first instance, I'd recommend returning them to the place of purchase and enquire about their stock that hopefully has a more recent manufacture date.

That said, you may unfortunately find that to be increasingly difficult as Google ended production of new units earlier in the year.
