During the summer, our brand new Nest Learning Thermostat would routinely read 5-10° Fahrenheit higher than the actual ambient room temp. I attributed this to the incredibly warm weather and the 100 year old house, and bought a Nest sensor and placed it in a cool, dark room in order to keep the Nest Thermostat from running constantly.
Now, on the first truly cold day/night of the year, it’s again reading 10° warmer, at 71° for the Thermostat sensor, and the secondary Nest sensor sitting right beside it reads 60°. It’s in the low 50’s outside and my house is definitely 60° inside, it’s cold, and the Nest Thermostat thinks it’s 71°. How is it swinging that different when the sensor is stuck on the wall directly beside the thermostat? I’ve done factory resets, checked the wires, what else can I do?

Hi Jordan_BHM,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay and for the trouble this may have caused you. I'd like to take a closer look at it. To confirm, in what country are you located? Please check your Nest Thermostat's signal strength by going to Settings Technical InfoNetwork. Also, restart your thermostat by going to go to Settings ResetRestart. After that, check if there are any changes with its ambient temperature.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Jenelyn
