New Google Home issue

JunkyBirdbath
Community Member

This is a new issue as of the last couple of days for light switches that have been working successfully with Google home for 2+ years.

Google home will turn the switches ON.  It will NOT however turn them OFF.  This is true for all google home devices and for the android app.  When the Google home android app is used, it always shows the devices as ON even if they are physically OFF.

The smart life app can successfully turn the switches ON and OFF.  The smart life app always displays the correct status.

I have 10 smart life compatible switches and this occurs for only 2 of them.

This is obviously not a network issue.  I have reset the hardware, uninstalled/reinstalled everything, cleared caches, etc.

Any ideas?

Hello JunkyBirdbath,

Thanks for posting here in the Community.

A few questions: were there any changes made before the issue started? Aside from your switches, are other smart devices in your Google Home app having concerns? What's the Google Home app version you have installed?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,
Lovely

No changes.  Also, the app for the devices can control the devices even though Google home cannot.

I'm using the latest version of the Google home app on a pixel 7.  This issue occurs when trying to control the device by both voice and with the app.  Same issue when using smart home devices to control the device.

Hi JunkyBirdbath,

Try these steps:

  • Command your Google Home device “Hey Google, sync my devices” > Control the 2 switches.
  • Check if the status is showing correctly. If not;
  • Open the Google Home app > Tap Settings > Works with Google.
  • Under Linked services, tap Smart Life > Unlink.
  • Force close and reopen the Google Home app.
  • Link Smart Life under Works with Google.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Alex

Hey JunkyBirdbath,

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps that Alex suggested? Let me know if that did the trick or not, so we can try something else.
