New Google Nest Mini insists on logging in - can't figure out how

I just added a Google Nest Mini to my Google Home. It shows above my other 70 devices imder LIVING ROOM - 1 device - Nest (thats what I called it) -  under that I have "Devices linked to you - 72 devices"  and a range of smaert devices. Using my phone I can turn things on and off by voice or button. If I speak to the Nest, it says "Please log in through the google HomeAPP" whereas my phone just gets on with it.

I can't seem to get past this...

NO reply. An update fixed the problem but disappointed no one from Google stepped in to help.
