Unable to edit name of Chromecast speaker in Google Home App

MikeJones916

The Google home app is telling me I can't edit the name of a chromecast device (my soundbar) on the app.

Also, when I create a home group, two speakers (soundbar and Google speaker) it connects to both but only plays music out of one of them.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi JasonY,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. Let's check what’s going on. A few things: what is the make and model of your soundbar with built-in Chromecast? What is the exact message that you are getting from your Google Home app when you try to change its name?

If you have already forced closed and reopened your Google Home app to refresh, you can try to uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app. If that did not fix the issue, you can try to install the Google Home app to another form to further isolate it.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks
Juni

Hi Juni.

None of those steps made any difference, but then one day I just tried it again and it allowed me to change the name.

The error message is in that screenshot, but now it seems to be resolved.
