Unable to share Nest products with home members

PrinceDrew
Community Member

I have been working on adding family members to my Google Nest with no luck.  I was redirected to add Family members to Google Home. Once I select all the pertinent data,  nothing happens. All home members have created new Gmail accounts for access and still nothing. The member emails are not google workspace emails, they are personal emails. I have  confirmed that I am in the home where I want to add family members. I have read through instructions in Google on how to add family members to a Home and can get to the last screen, but each time nothing happens. The members have been added in the google home app, however, they are unable to see the camera or the thermostat. Anyone else have this issue? I purchased a Nest door bell, Thermostat, and google home hub, the door bell and thermostat work with one home member's phone in the nest app however, I am unable to share it with my spouse. The nest devices are also not showing up in the google home app.

@PrinceDrew

Judging from the symptoms you've described, can I ask whether you have migrated your Google Nest account to Google (as documented in the link below)? If you have done so in the past, then all of the Google Nest devices that are shown in the Google Nest app should also automatically appear in the Google Home app, and your household members should also see all devices,

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9297676?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid#migrate-nest-...

If you have NOT migrated your Google Nest account to Google, and instead have separately set up some devices in the Google Home app, I'm not sure whether you can migrate your Google Nest account to the gmail account you are already using for other Google Nest devices. You might want to contact Google Nest Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp), or wait for suggestions in this forum from other customers.

The google Net account was created post 2019, according to the link you posted. No migration is needed. Might I also add, all new Gmail accounts were created for this google nest and google home products. The google nest app does not automatically appear on the home hub, it also does not appear on any other phones or the nest apps when new users are added.

@PrinceDrew

I'm just another customer and can't really tell what's going on in your situation.

We log onto the Google Nest app and the Google Home app with the same gmail account and password. All of our older Google Nest cameras and doorbells that appear in the Google Nest app also appear in the Google Home app automatically (but they can only be administered and have their history accessed from the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website).  Our two newer cameras appear only in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app.  This is how Google Nest has chosen to make it work.

We have 2 people in our household, each with a gmail account and password, and each has access to the Google Nest App and the Google Home app, and therefore to all of our cameras and doorbells.

The Google Nest app runs only on phones and tablets, and does not run on Nest Hubs.

When I added a new Google Nest Hello Doorbell in the Google Nest app in January, it automatically appeared in both the Google Nest app and the Google Home app for both of us, and can be viewed on any of our Nest Hubs.

When I added a new Google Nest Indoor Camera a couple of months ago in the Google Home app, it automatically appeared in the Google Home app for both of us, and can be viewed on any of our Nest Hubs.

Hi folks,

@MplsCustomer, thank you for the help. Appreciate it.

@PrinceDrew, just wanted to check if the information above helped you out? Also, you can check this link on how to invite home members on your Google Home app.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Nikki

No it did not, all home members have been invited, they received the invitation email, and joined. They also all have the Nest app downloaded, however, only the account owner can see all nest products, and functions.

@PrinceDrew

It doesn't seem clear exactly what's happening in your case.

Ever since I invited my son to join my household and accepted, he has been able to see the the same devices in the Google Nest app as I see, and the same devices in the Google Home app as I see. We have just one Google Nest "home" and he is looking at the same "home". As I noted above, we cannot see all of our devices in the Google Nest app because of Google Nest's 2-app approach. There is no ability to restrict a household member's access to certain devices; household members see all devices.  And we can view all of our cameras and doorbells on our Nest Hub.

If something else is happening in your case, perhaps you should contact Google Nest Support to figure out what's going on: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp?hl=en

We have the same issues in our home.  I've added my husband and son, yet they can "view" nothing on our account/cameras (and have been added to Google Home as well as having Google Home on their devices).  I have not told them to download the Nest app; possibly that will solve the issue with being unable to view anything on our cameras?

@TheNest22

Household members, just like the person who set up the household, should be able to view the CURRENT live feed for all Google Nest cameras and doorbells in the Google Home app. They should also be able to view history and access settings for the newer Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in 2021 in the Google Home app. And they should be able to view history and settings for older Google Nest cameras and doorbells in the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website. (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9304271?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid#zippy=) What history you see depends on your Nest Aware subscription.

This is all part of Google Nest's 2-app approach; see this Sept. 2021 post (no updates since): https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/...

Thank you.  It is functioning as of a few seconds ago after adding the Nest App to their devices.

I am having the same problem. When you had your family members download the Nest app did they log in with the owner's gmail account email and password? Because it's asking my sister to log into the Nest app and its not working with my gmail account info. Is she supposed to put in her gmail account info? How did you get it to work? Thanks.

I am having the same problem. On the google home app it shows my sister as an added family member but she can't see anything. We downloaded the Nest app on her phone and it's asked her if there was an previous migrated account, to which she answered yes. We have tried to log in with my gmail account and password (im the owner) and its says its incorrect email or password. We have tried multiple times. She still cannot see anything on her phone. She has an iphone by the way. I don't know if that makes any difference.

The way it is supposed to work is that you go to Settings | Household in the Google Home app and invite your family member to join your Google Nest "household". The family member has to have a Google (gmail) Account. Once the family member accepts the invitation, they log into the Google Nest app and/or the Google Home app and access the same Google Nest "home/structure" you're using, and they have access to your cameras and other devices.
