Using Door/Window Sensor as Starter for Google Home Routine

Can anyone confirm if a door/window sensor be used as a starter? I'm hoping to have a starter be "did this door just fully close?"

For example, something like this:
- If the door sensor notes that the door is fully closed, and its after 8pm, then: turn off the lights in the house.

I'm looking at either the Eve Door and Windows sensor w/ Matter, or the Aqara door and window sensor p2 w/ Matter.

I've seen mixed reviews when searching elsewhere in regards to whether Google Home can use the opening/closing of a door as a routine starter, either natively in the app, or via the script editor.

Can anyone confirm?

I'm new to this but I the starters seem to operate on changes of state.  So, I don't think what you've described would be possible.  However, I think it can be accomplished with two routines.

1. Starter is: 8pm, condition: door is closed, action: turn off lights.

2. Starter: door closes, condition: 8pm or later, action: turn off lights.

Were you able to do this with the Aqara P2 Door and Window sensor?

I have the Aqara D/W sensor P2 and it would not complete the install process into Google Home, but, I added it via AEOTEC Smart Things Hub v3. It shows as "sensor" and not "door".

Moved to a sunnier area and quickly realized the need for tinting, as the heat got intense inside my home. Started searching for reliable sites and stumbled upon https://commercial-windowtinting.com/  . This site seemed promising, offering car window tinting commercial Seattle and other types of tinting, plus there were deals and options specific to Benaulim, which was great to see. They explain everything about their services and products clearly. This site made it super easy to find exactly what I needed, and I’m really satisfied with how the tinting keeps the heat out.

Yes, a door/window sensor can be used as a trigger for automations like the one you’re describing, but it largely depends on the ecosystem you’re using. Both the Eve Door and Window Sensor w/ Matter and the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 w/ Matter support Matter, which means they should integrate well with platforms like Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and others. However, the functionality might vary slightly depending on the platform.

If you're already working with smart home automations and considering window/door sensors, why not take it a step further with smart tinting for windows https://autocraftcustomz.com/? Some smart tinting films allow you to control the opacity of windows, either manually or via automation. For example, you could automate your windows to darken when the door closes and it's after 8 PM—perfect for privacy and energy efficiency! Look into options like Sonte Film or Switchable Smart Glass for integrating tinting into your smart home system.
