routine actions failing

jukerjim
Community Member

I recently added an X-10 PRO (IR543 IR to RF converter) device to my Harmony hub and added the following devices in Google Home:

"turn on lights fast", "turn off lights fast", "dim lights", "turn on lights slow", "turn off lights slow".

The lights respond correctly when using the app "buttons" AND with verbal commands "start/turn on xxxx"

I created a routine called "Test" to confirm proper response and it worked perfectly. Sooooo..

I then incorporated those commands into my "Open Theater" and "Close Theater" routines and Google responds with "I don't understand" when those actions are encountered.

WHAT AM I MISSING?

Jim

Hey jukerjim,

Thanks for reaching out — let's check this out.

A few questions: what devices are included on your routines? Was it working before you had your X-10 PRO? Also, are you using the custom routines? Could you try incorporating your actions to a ready-made Routines to check if you'll get the same response?

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey jukerjim,

How's it going with your Routines? Do you still need help with it?

Thanks for following up. My bad for not reporting this sooner.

I got everything to work properly after hours of playing a round. The problem seemed to revolve around the congenital problem of Google not being able to repeat executed commands. I ran into that issue long ago.

Not to get too far into the weeds, but....

There are four commands for my X-10 wall dimmer:

On fast, Off fast, On slow, Off slow, and dim (just "dim" no on or off) All preceded with "turn on"

Once google has executed the dim command it remains "on" in the app . If the wall dimmer is manually turned either on or off and i issue a dim command, Google responds "I don't understand". If i issue any one of the other four commands, then "dim" works again. Because my close theater routine ends with an off command, everything works fine. Probably the ultimate fix would be to issue a "turn off dim" command if/when a routine ends with the "turn on dim" command.
