Can't select cameras for extended video history

Randalf
Community Member

i recently purchased near aware. I have multiple cameras, some of which I don't need the extended history for. In my home app, there's an option that allows me to, when managing the settings for extended video history, select cameras. Whenever I try to do that, it keeps giving the error "couldn't connect". It's been well over 24 hours since I purchased my aware subscription. I've restarted the Home app and my phone multiple times.

Hi Randalf,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having difficulties selecting your Nest cameras for extended video history. Don't worry; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I have a couple of questions that will help me understand this situation better. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • What's your Google Home app version? To find your Google Home app version:
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Select "Support."
    • Look for the app version at the bottom of the screen.
  • Are you using an iPhone or Android phone?
  • What are the specific models of the Nest cameras you are trying to select?
  • Have you tried to select the cameras using a different phone or tablet?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi everyone,

I apologize for my late reply. I just wanted to check in and see if you're still having trouble selecting your Nest Cameras for extended video history.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Nery.

Thanks Nery.   Yes, I am. I can only set Extended video histpory for 2 of 6 cameras. the other 4 are configured for video recording, but do not show up as options for Extended Video recording.

Sorry for delayed response. I'm still having the issue and get the error and retry option when trying to select my cameras.

I have a Google pixel (android)

App version of Home is 3.22.1.4

I do not have any other devices i can try to connect to home with to setup the cameras

All of my cameras are nest outdoor cameras, and a nest doorbell. I believe I got one or so every year for the past 3 years

I'm really sorry for the delay in my response. I'm searching for some information to provide you with the best resolution for you all! Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • Are you part of the Public Preview?
  • You mentioned this is happening with all models. Can you please specify the exact models of your Nest Cameras?
  • Are some cameras set up in the Nest app, or are all Nest Cameras set up in the Google Home app?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hello,

I am not part of the public preview.

All of my cameras are battery outdoor Nest Cams, bought directly through through the Google store, between 2021 - 2024. I also have a Google doorbell bought in 2021, again through Google store.

All of my cameras are setup in the Google Home app

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing with your Google Home App. I understand that you are trying to turn on the video recorded for some of your cameras, but when trying to do it through the Nest Aware tab on the Google Home, you receive an error message. No worries, help is here.

I will suggest you uninstall and reinstall the Google Home App to verify that the app is up to date. However, here I send you some steps that you can follow to turn off the video history for the cameras that you want.

  • Open the Google Home App.
  • Tap on the Devices tab.
  • Hit on one of the cameras.
  • Hit on the three dots on the top right and go to settings.
  • On settings, please go to video and then go to Video History.
  • Select the option of “3 hours of video history,” and it will turn off the video history provided by the Nest Aware to the camera.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.
