I use to be able to see a video when my cameras detected motion. Now all I see is a still picture, on both of my cameras. How do I fix this?

No, it is not the subscription. The subscription just keeps your videos for a period of time. Mine is not making videos when it detects motion, but it has for the past several years. Now it is only capturing a still photo, which is not very helpful.

You could try checking whether your subscription expired. What you reported is what happens without a subscription on the older Google Nest cameras installed in the Google Nest app, where you get "3 hours of photo snapshots of activity":
