Philips Hue Bridge or Google Home

Nikolai_Kuhl

Hey!
So I just bought a Philips Hue light bulb but realized I need the Philips Bridge to be able to use Google Assistant with it. I just started to wonder with a Google Nest or similar Google product, would be enough - also because I believe that I'll in future buy more Google Home stuff like the Smart Plug.

So bottom line: Should I buy the Philips Bridge or can I get the same from a Google device, which can also be used with other Google products?

Btw. I live in Denmark.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nikolai_Kuhl,

Thanks for posting.

You can control Philips Hue lights with a bridge via WiFi, or via Bluetooth without a bridge. With a bridge, you have extra functions. Setting fixed routines and having the lights dance along to your Spotify playlist, for example. Without a bridge, you can only control the light with your smartphone via Bluetooth.

It would be best for you to reach out Philips Hue or the store where you bought it and confirm if the type that you have requires a bridge or can be set up via Bluetooth.

See this guide. Depending on what you need, you can check which devices are compatible with Google Home. You can then decide which devices are to your liking.

Also, when you decide which Philips Hue to have, the set up steps are found on the links below:

Hope this helps.

Best,

Dan
