Unable to switch from 1 month free trial to Annual subscription

I did the one month free trial, it convinced me to sign up for an annual subscription, and it won't let me select it.

I have looked around, and apparently you can't change from monthly to annual subscriptions without letting it expire.

If I am letting it expire, why would I bother to sign up again.

Please someone let me know if i am doing it wrong, or if the subscriptions team are shooting themselves in the foot.

On the "FAQs about the Nest Aware (2nd gen) 30-day trial" page (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9248198), under "What happens when your trial ends", it says:

"If you've already purchased a subscription from the Google Store, it will automatically start after your 30-day trial ends. You don't need to do anything else to continue to use Nest Aware."

I don't know whether that will resolve it or not. It's been 6 years since we did this, and I can't recall the exact process.
