Asus Zenwifi not connecting second nest protect

uedmunds

I recently upgraded our home router to an Asus Zenwifi XT9 mesh.  Same network name and password.  The first Protect moved over without issue.  However the 2nd one went offline.  I have done the resets and remove for both.  I can get the 1st protect connected but the 2nd one comes back with error code P024 not able to connect to the network.  For the router I separated the channels and tried that option.  Still no luck.  I also disabled any firewalls in the settings.  Still nothing.

I also have a nest thermostat - I disconnected from network.  Still nothing.  I'm not sure how to get this 2nd unit connected?  Is there a manual way to connect it?

Thank you in advance as the forums and google don't seem to have the answers.

Hi @uedmunds!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by your Nest Protect not connecting properly to the network.

To provide the best troubleshooting steps, please share the following information:

  • How many Nest devices are offline?
  • Is the offline status shown in the Nest or Google Home app, or is it indicated on the Nest device itself?
  • Are other non-Nest devices in your home offline?
  • Can the Nest Protect device find or detect other networks?
  • Is your Wi-Fi router or access point within a reasonable range (1 to 15 meters) from the Nest device?

Once I have this information, I can provide tailored troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Regards,

Catheryn.

Thank you catheryn.

1. The 2nd device is offline and cannot be added.

2. The 2nd device hasn't been added yet. As it won't recognize the first.

The 2nd unit doesn't find the existing nest products to be added.

Hi, @uedmunds,

Thank you so much for your response. I apologize that your second Nest Protect isn't recognizing the connected one. I’m happy to provide you further assistance.

To assist you better, please confirm if you have a battery-powered or wired Nest Protect and if it's a first or second generation.

Before troubleshooting, please ensure the following:

  • The Nest Protect and your device are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Bluetooth is enabled on your device but not connected to other devices.
  • Cellular data is turned off.
  • On iOS devices with iOS 14 or later, ensure that Local Network Access is enabled for the Nest or Home app.
  • The already-connected Nest Protect is awake and within 2-3 meters.

To troubleshoot the error P024, please follow these steps:

  • Restart your phone or tablet, and try to pair the 2nd Nest Protect again.
  • If the Nest Protect is still not connecting, turn off cellular data and enable airplane mode, then turn Wi-Fi back on and try to pair the 2nd Nest Protect again.
  • If the inconvenience persists, restart your network equipment. Unplug your modem, router, and any WiFi extenders for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
  • If after those troubleshooting steps the Nest Protect is not connecting, perform a factory reset on the Nest Protect and try to pair it using a different mobile device or tablet.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Ana
