I bought two wired smoke alarms/CO2 detectors and installed one successfully. After a couple weeks delay (don't ask) I prepared to install the second one. I couldn't remember which side of the backplate faced the wall, so, like a nincompoop I popped it on the back of the unit.
And now can't remove it to install on the wall.
Any secret release or do I destroy it and order a new backplate. And if so, from where can they be ordered?
The good news is I now know which side faces out
Thanks for any help you can offer

Replacements are hard to come by. I think it rotates a good amount before coming off. Just try spinning it one way or the other. I forget if there's a latch but i dont think so

Hi NorthPith,
Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear you've popped the back plate on the back of your device. I'm here to help! To gather some more details, I'd like to ask the following questions:
1. What is the model of your device? Here is a link for your reference: How to tell which Nest Protect you have
2. Where did you buy your Nest Protects?
3. When did you buy them?
If possible, please share a picture of your device with the back plate popped on the unit.
Let me know if you have any additional information; it’ll be helpful.
Best regards,
Juan

Juan, most of this info is available in their post. Gen 2 has been out for almost a decade.
1. Gen 2 wired (based on post tag, and purchased a few weeks ago.)
2. Does place / country of purchase change the backplate design?
3. User bought them several weeks ago.
Do you have a specific support article that demonstrates separating the unit from the backplate? Confirming if any latching tabs engage after install?
