Batteries don't work even after changing

I have 3 Google Nest Protects, bought 3 years ago. One of them is absolutely fine, but the other two at the same time started giving low battery noises. I bought exactly the same batteries and they worked for approx 4 months, after which they both started giving low battery noises at exactly the same time. Changed them again with new batteries - two weeks later, the same thing happens.

I know the issue isn't the batteries as the third unit is fine!

Warranty expired a couple of years ago and I'm now stuck with two faulty products 😞

Hi Gill999,

Uh-oh! Let's see what's going on. Check on the following:

  1. Battery compatibility. Both battery and wired Protect require Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries.
  2. Battery contacts. Clean the Nest Protect units' battery contacts to prevent poor connections and false low battery warnings. Use a soft cloth or cotton swab to gently clean the contacts if needed.
  3. Firmware updates. Ensure your Nest Protect units are updated with the latest firmware to address known issues or improve battery management algorithms, potentially resolving low battery notification problems. Your Nest Protect automatically downloads the latest software. You don't need to do anything if it's connected to the Internet.
  4. Environmental factors. Environmental factors like extreme temperatures or humidity can affect Nest Protect battery life. Install smoke detectors in suitable locations away from direct sunlight, heat, or moisture

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
