Can I use a wired Protect on batteries for 2-3 months until I get it wired in?

Just moved into a new place and won't be able to wire in a Protect for 2-3 months. Will it work with just the batteries for that long? I know that's not what it's designed to do but it should work for some amount of time. - will it be complaining the whole time that the power is out? (FYI I have a battery one and the 6 batteries last for years, so seems like the 3 batteries should work for a few months)

Hi username5000,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. Wired Protects use their backup batteries to keep all features up and running. It is designed to last multiple years of battery life. If you have a consistent source of power, the backup batteries should last the life of the Protect.

Since the Nest Protect you have is designed to work through wires, you can still use the wire Nest Protect as a battery-only device but it is not recommended and it will drain the batteries real fast.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Zoe
