Cannot reconnect existing Nest Protect to Wifi

Ugh!  I have gone down a rabbit hole.  Was trying to migrate my Nest thermostat to Google.  Couldn't because my Google account was already associated with a Nest Account (I had my parents' home and the family beach home connected).  In trying to set up a new "home" in Google so I could migrate, I deleted my parents' thermostat.  I'll try to re-add at a later date.  Kept getting error messages and could NOT get my devices into Google.  Deleted the Nest app and thought I'd just try setting them up from scratch in Google.  It worked for my thermostat, but when I got to my Nest Protects, it said they cannot be set up in Google.  So I reinstalled the Nest app.  Of course everything was gone.  Added the thermostat with no problem.  So trying to add hard-wired Nest Protects back to the app they've been working in for years.  Can't get it to work.  When it gets to the connecting to wi-fi part, I get an error P006.  I have (multiple times each) restarted my router, restarted my phone (Android), factory reset the Protect, removed the thermostat so there are no other devices in that "home," and restarted the set up process.  I cannot get it connected to wi-fi.

Hello lisa97225

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. We  understand the troubles that you've experienced on this issue. Don't worry we'll help you out. While setting up your Nest Protect it should have a pulsing blue light and will try to connect to your Nest Thermostat. Your Nest Protect should be near your Wi-Fi router and your Nest Thermostat should be awake by this time, if not, just press it once to make sure it's awake. Quit and restart your Nest App as well as your Wi-Fi router. Make sure you have a 2.4GHz bandwidth because the Nest Protect can't be connected to a 5GHz network. Let us know your update here.

Best,

Emerson

Apparently my router has both.  I don't know which it's trying to connect to, but it had been working for the past few years without incident, and I didn't have this issue when I set them up initially.

Hi there,

@lisa97225, to ensure that your Nest Protect will be connected to the same bandwidth, we suggest contacting your ISP provider to split your router's bandwidth for you to easily identify which is the 2.4 or 5GHz. Once done, connect both of your Nest Protects to 2.4GHz and continue setting them up.

Please let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, Emerson.

Thanks,

Jenelyn

I don't know how to do that, and it also sounds like that might require re-setting up every single smart item in my home...and everything else connected to wi-fi???
