My Nest smoke detector is 5 years old but it’s supposed to be good for 10 years. It has started chirping occasionally. The batteries checked out as still good but I replaced them anyway. The chirping continues. Even when I remove the unit from the ceiling there is still chirping from the base in the ceiling. What’s wrong?

If the replacements are energizer lithium, you've exhausted your troubleshooting. Request a warranty replacement, but be prepared to wait months if anyone actually responds.
In the meantime, Report this issue to the Consumer Product Safety Commission as it is a commonly reported issue that Google has failed to address or acknowledge internally. https://www.saferproducts.gov/IncidentReporting

It turned out not to be a problem with this product at all. It’s fine.

Use li ultimate (as recommended) regular Aa li chirp with new batteries

It wasn't the Nest that was chirping after all. It was another nearby sensor that's hidden so we had forgotten about it. I wish I could delete my original post.

Hello augustberkshire,
Thanks for reaching out and updating us about your inquiry. I'm glad to hear that your Nest Protect is up and running as intended. It looks like we can consider this thread complete, so I will lock it within 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.
Regards,
