Google Nest Protect - manufacture dates

Is Google still manufacturing Nest Protects? I purchased 6 wired units in 2024 through Home Depot. All had manufacture dates in 2023. I purchased a battery unit from Google Store in 2025. It had a manufacture date in 2022. I contacted Google Store and was sent a replacement battery unit, which was also manufactured in 2022.

I'd like to get the full useful life from these products since they are quite expensive. Is there any way to get one that has been manufactured within a year or so?

Hi rckraus,

Thank you for reaching out to the community! I understand you'd like to know if Google is still manufacturing Nest Protects, as you purchased a battery-powered unit from the Google Store in 2025 with a 2022 manufacture date.  I definitely understand you wanting to make sure you enjoy more of your product’s expected lifetime.

As the recommended life of the product is tied to the date of manufacture, there's always going to be some period of time that passes before you are able to use the device. This is true of any Smoke and CO Alarm product and cannot be avoided.

If you could share your thoughts on our feedback form, it'll be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Juan

I filled out the feedback form. This is what I said:

I posted about the fact that I purchased a battery Nest Protect from Google Store and received one with a 2022 manufacture date. The result is that the useful life is 7 years and not 10. I have the same issue with 6 wired units purchased from Home Depot.

The response to my question was nothing more than "that's the way it is" with smoke detectors. That's not my experience. When I've purchased other brands in the past, the manufacture date was within a few months. None have ever been three years old.

The problem is even more concerning since I bought the unit from Google directly and not some retailer than might have stale stock. Apparently there are no options for purchasing a unit with a manufacture date that gives a fairly substantial share of useful life as opposed to 70%.
