Log into Nest Protect Smoke Detectors via USB

Hello all,

I am trying to log into to obtain the network name and entry keys as the labels have been damaged and can't use the QR code, nor can I read the entry keys etc...

I have tried this solution but it does not work:

1.   Plug USB into back of Nest Protect, and connect to your computer or laptop.

2.  Hold down the Nest button on the Nest Protect until it attaches to your computer or laptop.

3.  Open the device in file explorer and then open the .PLI file.

4.  Scroll to the bottom and you should find a 6 digit paring code.

5.  You can now set up the Nest Protect manually.

Off note:

1- I restarted my computer

2- I reset Nest protect

3- Cable does work with another device

Thank you!

Try using a different USB port? Try using a different cable?

If you have one, try using a different computer?

I did use a different cable (twice) and 2 different ports and a different computer (mine is a laptop, I used a desktop to try)

And you already tried a factory reset as well, right?

  1. Press and hold Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
  2. Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number.
  3. Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings.

As I mentioned before, yes I did try that as well.
